The three clubs – Letchworth Howard Rotary, Letchworth Garden City Rotary, and Letchworth Inner Wheel – had come together for a seasonal meal and entertainment at the town’s Broadway Hotel which also raised money for Mary’s Meals, the charity that sets up school feeding programmes in some of the world’s poorest communities.
The event was organised by the Letchworth Howard club, which has long had Mary’s Meals as one of its special charities. A raffle during the evening raised £225, while an auction for a patchwork quilt made by Letchworth Howard member Mary Rawlins raised another £100. The £325 total will be doubled thanks to an anonymous sponsor of Mary’s Meals.
As well as enjoying the meal, guests were left scratching their heads over the amazing mind-reading feats performed by mentalist David McGuire. There was also much laughter engendered by a unique take on the traditional song The Twelve Days of Christmas performed by Letchworth Howard member Alan Fraser and his wife Anne.
The evening also included the singing of traditional carols.
