This weekend Seagate Rotary will be helping with the Poppy Scotland collections at Tesco and Sainsbury in Irvine.
Seagate’s speaker on Monday was Dave Williams talking about Care and Share, a lunch club with a difference. Meeting in St Mary’s church hall on Wednesdays from 1pm to 3pm, Care and Share is open to anyone with homelessness or addiction problems. In addition to providing soup and sandwiches, there are a selection of advisors on hand to give guidance on housing and other issues, and occasionally a dentist and an optician are present.
Care and Share is non religious and non judgemental, and aims to help people with their problems and rebuild their confidence. It is funded by voluntary donations, and also supported by local supermarkets. Dave also mentioned the Fullarton Teen Challenge which meets in the Fullarton Connexions centre on Tuesday evenings at 7.30 and aims to help younger people with similar problems. There were questions, and a Vote of Thanks was proposed by Robert McMillan.
Next week’s meeting will be a ten pin bowling challenge with the Irvine Skinners Craft. Members should meet in the Hallmark car park at 6.45 to arrange car sharing.
