Monday was a club business night at Seagate Rotary. Various community, charity and social activities were discussed and will be developed over the next few months. It was noted that there have been only 10 cases of wild Polio so far this year, as compared with 24 last year and 1000 a day when Rotary started the campaign to eliminate the disease 30 years ago. In one problem country, Afghanistan, 10 million children will be vaccinated this year.
Hugh Hutchison, just back from 3 weeks holiday diving in the Galapagos islands, declared himself to be winner of the football sweep, which he organises to raise funds for the Polio campaign, with Jim Anderson taking the booby prize. In the monthly general charity raffle the winner was Pamela Lodge with a bottle of fine malt which will no doubt go to a good cause. Next week being the Wee Pies, there will be no Seagate meeting. Those members who are not in the Trades will be having a Scatter Night, visiting other Rotary clubs in the district.
