Rise & Fall of the Oil Industry in Aberdeen - 04/09/17

Weekly Press Report

Seagate Rotary’s speaker on Monday was Iain Whyte.  Iain, originally from Irvine, has recently returned to the town after a career of 40 years travelling the world in various roles in the oil industry.

Starting as a roughneck on Brent Delta in 1978, he later trained as a mud engineer in Houston, and spent many years in postings as far apart as Wyoming, Saudi and Uzbekistan before eventually settling in Aberdeen but still travelling the world in the service side of the oil industry.

Iain’s talk was full of anecdotes of the life of a peripatetic expat, never more than 2 years in one place, and witnessing the highs and lows of the oil business.  There were questions, and a Vote of Thanks was proposed by Jim Fairgrieve.
