Bert was born in 1925 and brought up in Cambridge. After his school education, he attained a place at London University and became a qualified Pharmacist in 1945 which he carried through into his military service. After being demobbed in 1950 Bert resumed his pharmacy career which eventually led to becoming company director. He retired in 1990.
During his Rotary service, which began in 1966, he served as President of Baldock Club in 1974 and 1996 and has served on most, if not all, committees over the years, most notably as Chairman of Foundation, Rotary’s own international charity. Due to his work commitments he left Baldock Rotary Club in 1983 and became a Founder member of Hitchin Priory Club, returning to Baldock in 1990 and achieving a Paul Harris Fellowship award in 2003. Bert has been married to Phyllis since 1950 and they have two children, five grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
The photograph shows Bert receiving his award from President Mike Williams. In his reply Bert said that being in Rotary always gave him great pleasure and provided long lasting fellowship. This award would continue to ensure that he would be able to stay in touch with club activities.
