Stepping out – the new Rotary year

Llandudno Rotary Club was honoured to receive newly-appointed District Governor Beryl Cotton to the Club, scarcely a week into her Governorship of the District’s 70 Rotary Clubs in North Wales and Merseyside.

Speaking at the Queen’s Hotel Llandudno on 11th July, Beryl paid tribute to her predecessor Molly Youd and outlined Rotary’s priorities for the year, emphasizing the part that our Club – indeed, any successful Rotary Club – had to play in these, namely:-

  • Build on Membership. Rotary has never aimed for mass membership but a Club of 30 can be more effective than the present 19, however dedicated some members may be
  • Relentless focus on humanitarian aid – Rotary’s quest to eradicate polio is but one aspect of this; our Club’s links with, and help to, the Ilitha Pre-School project, near Capetown, is another.
  • Tell the tale – getting Rotary’s message across breaks down barriers and helps people to identify with what Rotary is trying to do
  • Plant 1.2 million trees – one for each Rotary member in the world, as our part in the fight for a better world environment
