Memories of Japan - 07/08/17

Weekly Press Report

The speaker at Seagate Rotary on Monday was Peter Clark, from Troon, with an illustrated talk on Japan.  Peter has had a lifelong interest in all things Japanese, and recently had the opportunity to visit the country.

His photos gave an insight into this complex society which still retains cultural differences which are almost incomprehensible to the European mind.  They ranged from the ultra modern hotels and railways to the ancient temples and gardens of a civilisation that developed for thousands of years with little influence from other countries.

It was noticeable that few ordinary people speak a foreign language, and all signage is in Japanese making the services of an interpreter or tour guide more or less essential.  Peter answered questions, and a Vote of Thanks was proposed by John Brown
