Billericay Youth Town Council (BYTC) was formed in 1998 and comprises twenty Youth Councillors who serve two year terms - elections are held in local secondary schools (most recently in October 2016). BYTC members gain experience of democracy at work from the inside, and the ability to present a youth view to the main Town Council.
However, being a Youth Councillor is a great way to experience working in a team for the community, which is why for the last two years its members have helped us run the Billericay Soapbox Derby.
The Rotray Club of Billericay liks to support the youth of our town and were in a position to do so recently with a donation to Council funds.
On July 18, Immediate Past President Mike Sinclair and President Peter Greene attended the last BYTC meeting of the year to present them with a cheque for £250 from the proceeds of the Soapbox Derby. This is in grateful recognition of the good work that they do, and in thanks for their contribution to making the Soapbox Derby the success it was.
back Rotary's programs for students and youth can change the lives of those who participate by earning scholarships, travelling on cultural exchanges, or helping a community.
