Despite being one of the first Clubs in District to admit lady members, as well as being the UK Club which saw the word "gender" introduced by Council of Legislation into their criteria for NOT barring membership, after 83 years Hemel Hempstead Rotary Club has its first lady President.
At the handover meeting in June the Club welcomed Mary McHatton (pictured) to the post.
Soon after joining the Club, after a career that included Clinical Psychology, Mary gave the Club a clear indication of her leadership qualities by competing in a 4,800 mile stage of the Round the World Clipper Race in 2011.
Less than attentive members at Club meetings are being left in no doubt who is in charge, and with the full support of the Club Mary is looking forward to implementing her plans for the coming year.
