On Monday, Seagate Rotary presented a cheque to the local charity the AQ Trust. It was accepted by Phyllis Rogers and Pamela Johnstone of the Trust. A visitor on Monday was Eve Robertson from the Rotary Club of Calgary, Alberta. Eve, a pharmacist, was originally from Troon and was over on a holiday
Seagate’s speaker on Monday was member Raymond Jamieson, with a slide show of his recent trip to Italy on a charity Banger Rally. With his wife, they took a car costing under £500 and converted to look like a tank from Irvine to Lille for the start of the rally. They there joined numerous similar vehicles and had 4 days to cover 1600 miles to Rimini. The route took in 6 countries and several Alpine and Dolomite passes up to 9000 feet, with stops in Thun, Livigno and Cortina.
When they reached Rimini the care was ceremonially disposed of in a scrap yard, earning them the princely sum of 50 euros. Raymond’s trip netted over £1500 for the charities Help for Heroes and COPS. The photos of some of the passes were a reminder that some of the driving in the Alps is not for the faint hearted. A Vote of Thanks was proposed by Billy Dickson.
