CLUB NIGHT - 26/06/17

On Monday President Eric Greig presented a cheque from Seagate Rotary to Adam Lee.  Adam has represented Seagate with distinction in Rotary Young Musician competitions, and is raising funds for a new clarinet required as he starts further music studies in the autumn.

On Sunday the walkers got their exercise on an historical ramble around various Pictish, Roman and mediaeval fortifications in the vicinity of Stirling.  They then put the calories back on with a substantial afternoon tea in Doune. 

Monday was a club business night.  Ian Dickson reported on his recent visit to Malawi where he was handing over Rotary sponsored solar lighting equipment.  These vary in size from individual reading lights to units which will light up whole classrooms in primary schools, enabling teachers and pupils to continue studying after sundown.  Other units incorporate mobile phone chargers.

In the past year, Seagate have donated £1500 to the Rotary International campaign to eradicate Polio.  So far this year there have been 6 cases of wild polio reported worldwide, down from 17 last year, and down from 1000 a day when the campaign started 30 years ago.
