Unofficial Poppy Walk - June 2017

An annual circular walk in London to raise money for the British Legion Poppy appeal

The 9th Unofficial Poppy Walk was held on 4th June, raising money for the Royal British Legion.

Rotarians comprised the majority of the walkers.

Attendance wasn’t as good as previously, probably due to the closure of London Bridge station making travelling difficult for some. Nevertheless, the teams who were able to make it all said they thoroughly enjoyed the walk.

The walk was approximately 14kms (9 miles) starting at Bunhill Fields off City Road, then roughly south east through Spitalfields and Whitechapel to Wapping. Turning west the route passed St Katharine Dock, the Tower of London and continued along the north bank of the Thames to the Victoria Embankment.

From here, the return leg was via the Strand, Fleet Street, Hatton Garden, Smithfield, the Barbican and past the Honourable Artillery Company's ground to the finish line.

The winning team was Brogravia who got full marks and won the tiebreak questions.

The fastest team, who also got full marks, was Easy Sunday Walkers.

At least £260 has been raised for the British Legion ... this is their letter of appreciation.
