Rotarians
traditionally ask any new member to give a talk about their work and life, as a
way of members getting to know them.
On 13 June Gavin Davies,
Rotary Club of Llandudno’s newest member, gave an account of his progression
from being “not good enough at Maths to go into computing” through his
computing career, leading to his being proprietor a thriving computer business.
Gavin’s clear enjoyment at confounding the gloomy predictions of his school’s
career adviser was self-evident, even if he was discreet enough to stop short
of reflecting which of them was now the better paid! Like so many
entrepreneurs, Gavin’s progress was given a kick-start by being thwarted by the
restrictions of being someone else’s employee, however good the pay and
conditions might be. He therefore progressed from being an IT Manager, firstly
within the NHS and, more latterly a systems analyst at Denbighshire County
Council before branching out on his own fifteen years ago..
Gavin can reflect with satisfaction that he is now the proprietor of each of Core Websites and Core Printing, both flourishing businesses, and firmly he and the business are settled in Old Colwyn, along with his partner. Amy.
