Mille Miglia - 19/06/17

On Sunday, Seagate Rotary ran a very successful bottle stall on behalf of SANDS at the SANDS duck race and gala day in Eglinton Park.  The good weather and big crowd helped to boost the funds raised for the charity. 

On Monday the walking group went up the big hill at Carsphairn, in Galloway, and some were recognisable in the evening by their sun and wind scorched complexion.

At Monday evening’s meeting, Adam Moonie reported on his recent visit to the Rotary International Convention in Atlanta, Georgia, and on his missed flights and missing luggage on the return trip.  Monday’s speaker was Iain Doole, with illustrations from his holiday last month to Italy to watch the Mille Miglia.  This famous 1000 mile race takes place on public roads round the northern half of Italy, and is open to cars from 1927 to 1957.  It attracts spectacular and expensive cars from all over the world, and is a national 4 day festival making it a trip for all of the family, not just car enthusiasts.  Some of the audience were enthused with the idea of taking part, but lost interest when a £10,000 entry fee was mentioned.
