For the past three years “Hill Billies”, the Narberth Rugby Club team, has beaten “Full Bore”, the Narberth Eagle Inn team. But in a thrilling close-fought final race the Eagle team shot past Narberth Rugby Club in a magnificent time of 51.34 seconds a gap of 0.09 seconds. Third team Valero Vikings finished in a respectable 53.59 seconds.
The winning Eagle team captain Simon Hitches received their trophy.
A trophy for the most improved team was presented to The Puffin Paddlers.
Narberth and Whitland Rotary President Mary Adams thanked all of the competitors who had jointly raised £750 per boat and the paying adults who had each paid £3 for entry to the park. Hundreds of cars packed the field car parks at this scenic tourist centre. Rotary would like to thank neighbouring Farmer Nigel and Dwr Cymru Welsh Water who granted a licence to use the reservoir for this classic popular event.
Major sponsors Hywel Griffiths & Son provided novel entertainment for children in the form of a giant game of skittles. Event Co-ordinator Ken Morgan said: “We are delighted with their sponsorship and continuing financial aid from Care in Hand, Rush Acre Garage and Folly Farm We could not stage this event without their help”
