Llandudno Rotary supports RNLI Llandudno

There was a reminder of the famous catchphrase from the 1980's film "Jaws" as 23 members and guests of the Rotary Club of Llandudno gathered to hear Captain Marcus Elliott, Lifeboat Operations Manager for RNLI Llandudno, speak to their meeting on 9 May 2017.

Captain Elliott spoke of the exciting times unfolding in the history of the RNLI's service to the people of Llandudno and district, and to the seafarers in our waters.

There has been a lifeboat in Llandudno since 1861 and a lifeboat station since 1903, but this summer the town gets not only a new lifeboat station on the beach at Craig-y-Don - due to open in October 2017 - but is to take delivery of a brand new lifeboat.  This will be a massive state of the art Shannon class water-jet propelled (as opposed to propellors) vessel capable of 25 knots (about 25mph).

A video presentation of the £2m Shannon class vessel demonstrated its incredible buoyancy, manoeuvrability, facilities and capacity - truly 21st Century technology.  Members thanked the Captain for his presentation and the Club presented him with a cheque for £500.00 as a donation towards the new lifeboat station.
