Mary Hignett Grant Rolls Out The Mats For Knockin & Kinnerley Cricket Club

K&K Cricket Club show off their new mats in the nets. The Mary Hignett Bequest Fund paid for one of them.


Knockin and Kinnerley Cricket Club is moving from strength to strength, largely down to its ever growing and very popular junior section.  The Knockin & Kinnerley Knights train every Monday and the club have seen significant growth from just 10 members 7 years ago to well over 130 members today.

The junior section is an undoubted recent success story and following an application to the Rotary Club of Oswestry’s Mary Hignett Bequest Fund the club are now able to improve the quality of the sessions with the purchase of new mats for their nets.  The new mats will provide a consistent and reliable surface for the junior members to practice and enhance their cricket skills.

Junior Cricket Manager, Gary Darlington was pleased with their successful application and said “The grant has enabled us to purchase better quality net matting which is heavily used by our junior members.  Our junior members will greatly benefit from better quality sessions and we are very grateful for the support of the Rotary Club and the Mary Hignett Bequest Fund.”

In addition to the new matting, the cricket club have put their old matting to good use by allowing fellow Shropshire Club, Ellesmere Cricket Club, to acquire and use to further support the development of junior cricket across the North of the County.
About Knockin & Kinnerley Cricket Club

Knockin & Kinnerley Cricket Club was established in 1862 and has played cricket at The Nursery Ground since 1954.  In 2017 they will run 4 weekend league teams and 2 Midweek league teams.  They also have 4 Junior sides at U15, 13 & 11 (2 sides) and an U11 girls’ team who have been entered into the Shropshire Lady Taverners competition.
