Youth Art Competition 2017

Art Competition for students in Princes Risborough

Princes Risborough Upper School, plus four Primary Schools from the local area, took part in this year’s Rotary Art Competition.  This competition was organised by Princes Risborough Rotary Club in co-operation with the Art Departments in each school and supported by Risborough Art Gallery and the Art and Office shop in Princes Risborough.

Stephen Aldus of the Risborough Art Gallery made available space to exhibit the winning entries over the Easter holiday period when entrants and members of the public were able to view the framed pictures on display.  Rotary were fortunate to have the entries judged by a well respected local artist Dennis Syrett, FROI, RSMA, RBA supported by Mr Aldus.

Prizes, kindly supplied by Stephen Barnes of the Art and Office shop, were awarded to the best three entries in each of the three age groups.  Award ceremonies took place at each of the participating schools at which the President and members of Rotary handed out the prizes.

The best entry in the competition, a portrait of a young lady, was won by a student attending Princes Risborough Upper School and she received a print, donated by Risborough Art Gallery, by Quentin Blake best known for his illustrations in Roald Dahl books.  The overall winner of the primary school group was a pupil from St John’s C of E school, Lacey Green.

All the participating schools were very enthusiastic about this event and asked that the Rotary Club promote a similar competition next year.
