Seagate Rotary’s speaker on Monday was club member Raymond Jamieson talking about his life in the garage business. After an apprenticeship working on everything from cars to HGVs, Raymond started his own business, Jamieson Motor Services, in Hurlford in 1986.
In 2012 he moved the business to East Road in Irvine, where he services and MoTs all makes of cars and vans. He also supplies tyres and provides breakdown recovery and roadside assistance. Modern vehicle servicing depends heavily on computer analysis and he is fully equipped with the latest diagnostic tools.
There were many questions, lasting as long as the talk, as members sought advice or gave anecdotes on their lack of understanding of modern vehicle operation. Once everyone could service or repair their own cars, but that generation of cars and people is becoming a rare species. Eventually, a Vote of Thanks was proposed by Jim Anderson.
The club’s Sportsmen’s Dinner will be on Friday 24 February, with speakers Brian McGinley and Willie Henderson. This year’s Primary Schools Quiz will be at Glebe Primary on Friday 24 March.
