Tess Syed-Tollan - Presentation on her visit to Nepal.

Tess Syed-Tollen, an ex pupil from Kirkcudbright Academy and currently a student at Strathclyde University, was guest speaker at the first 2017 meeting of the Rotary Club of Kirkcudbright. Tess recently spent twelve weeks in Nepal working for Raleigh International and had received some financial support from the Kirkcudbright Rotary Club to make this possible. The aim of the project in Nepal was to help a rural community develop sustainable businesses and to encourage entrepreneurship. Tess told of the continuing devastating impact of the earthquake that hit Nepal in 2015 but also she spoke of the resilience of the local people. Her affection for her host family was obvious. When asked what she felt she had learnt from her experiences in Nepal, she highlighted how she now feels she has developed much more self confidence, how she now has an appetite to do even more charity work as well as now having a desire to seek further opportunities to see more of the world.
