On Monday evening Seagate Rotary had a talk from Gail McNaught and Shona Elvin from the Cornerstone charity.
Founded nearly 40 years ago the charity provides a range of services to individuals with a variety of special needs including learning and physical disabilities, and is one of the largest charities in Scotland. The particular focus on Monday was Shared Lives, which is a service placing generally young adults in permanent foster care.
The young people may be coming out of institutional care and need long term support and stability in their lives. Carers go through assessment and training and have at all times backup from Cornerstone if required. Shona showed a short video which demonstrated the benefit to young adults in becoming for the first time part of a stable family, and the reward felt by the family in providing that home and support.
Gail and Shona answered questions from the audience, and a Vote of Thanks was proposed by Fiona Lee.
