Young Artist Competition for clubs in D1020



Aims

This competition aims to encourage young people to:


•    Experiment with creativity within fine art

•    Use traditional or contemporary methods of fine art

•    Show interpretation of their chosen topic

•    Express their ideas through the medium of fine art


Who can take part?


This competition is open to all schools and colleges, including those that are home educated, within District 1020. The age range for competitors is:


Junior          Primary School

Intermediate     High School Pupils S1, S2 and S3

Senior        High School Pupils S4, S5 and S6

NB: This year age groups defined by year groupings

Competitors must enter in the Year Group shown above, at the time the artwork was completed and include their date of birth on the application form.


Competition theme and materials


Entrants are to produce a piece of 2D artwork on the above theme.

Maximum sizes of pieces of work per age group are as follows:


Junior          Primary School        A4 size Maximum

Intermediate     S1, S2 and S3         A4 to A3 Maximum

Senior        S4, S5 and S6          A4 to A3 Maximum


Time Frame Aug 2021 - Sep 2022

  • Clubs promote to their schools from now through the autumn term, in order to allow the theme to be built in to lesson plans.
  • Proposed timescale: work completed between January & end May. Local (club) round of judging to be completed by end June 2022.
  • The first, second and third placed in each club competition will go to the District final and exhibition at Marchmont House, ‘a Home for Makers & Creators’ in October 2022, winners will receive a trophy and their work will go on display at District Conference at Peebles in October 2022. The schools that the winners attend will also receive a trophy.
  • Costs to clubs are dependent very much on judging costs, but suggested prizes 1st £25, 2nd £15 & 3rd £10 (£50 per class for three classes) but up to each club to decide.
