Monday being a day of sunshine and clear air, a number of Irvine Seagate Rotarians made a trip to the top of Tinto, at over 2300 feet, the highest point on the edge of the Central Belt. It was cold but the views were good. At Seagate’s meeting on Monday evening donations were agreed to Marie McFadyen for her volunteering trip abroad, and to the Marymass Folk Festival to assist with the Old Folks Concert.
Speaker at Seagate on Monday was Louise Crichton from Girl Guides North Ayrshire. Louise talked about this summer’s Senior Guides’ expedition to Cologne, which was partly sponsored by Seagate Rotary. 15 members and leaders spent 3 days in Paris, 2 in Cologne and 2 in Amsterdam, as part of an international Guides gathering, with various tasks to complete en route. For younger members this was the first time they had been abroad without family, and it encouraged them to be independent, responsible and confident, major objectives of the Guide movement. There is a waiting list of girls wanting to join the guides in Ayrshire, but numbers are restricted by a shortage of adult helpers. After questions, a Vote of Thanks was proposed by Eric Greig.
