On Monday, Irvine Seagate Rotary agreed to donate a Shelter Box to the Haiti Hurricane appeal. This will provide a family with accommodation, basic tools and utensils and water purification equipment. Seagate hope to have a public collection for Haiti shortly.
Speaker at Seagate on Monday was Mhairi McFadyen. Mhairi is a local youth worker who has been accepted to go next year on an 11 month, 11 country volunteering mission to some of the poorest areas in Africa, Asia and Central America. She has to raise funds to cover her own costs of travel and accommodation, and she talked to the club about what she has done and is proposing to do.
Already she has organised a social night in her community centre, and had a public custard bath, and in the next few months she will be having a Zumba fundraiser, and an Xmas Ball. Mhairi has previously done a month volunteering in Swaziland in 2014. After her enthusiastic talk she answered questions, and a Vote of Thanks was proposed by Raymond Jamieson.
