We are always ready to support other local service clubs in their fundraising events so on Saturday Night some of our members joined Basildon Concord and about 90 others to support its fund raising evening at the Basildon Holiday Inn – a Charity Dinner Dance in aid of the Polly Parrot appeal for Basildon Hospital.
Good Vibrations and Magic was its title – and that’s just what it was.
The evening started with drinks in the bar where professional members of the “Southend Sorcerers Society” moved around the crowd performing magic tricks to astound us all. How one of them made two holes appear in a coin I was holding when there was only one when I took it, I’ll never know! And many more as well. How do they do it when we are so close to them? It’s just magic!
Then a dinner of Pate, Chicken Chasseur, and cheesecake to follow while the magicians continued to circulate around the tables, astounding us all.
Dinner over, and it was time for the “Beached Boys”, a
tribute band to the original Beach Boys, playing their old tunes with great skill
and enthusiasm. Great music and ….. a
lot of dancing. Was that DGE Nick
Sillitoe we saw leading the way with his wife. And Ag Peter Mc Cafferty?
Even our club secretary took a turn on the floor!
Tickets for a Raffle draw were sold during the evening so that the maximum amount could be raised to support the appeal.
