Refitting Irvine - 15/08/16
Weekly Press Report
Speaker at Irvine Seagate Rotary on Monday was Crawford Fulton. Crawford is a former planning and economic development advisor who set up the voluntary group Clyde Imagineering, which provides a range of free services and advice to community groups and social enterprises in Scotland.
He was particularly talking about regenerating pride in Irvine, on the basis that improvements to the community have to be generated by the people who live there and cannot be imposed upon them. Several groups in the town are already involved in ideas to change perceptions and create a positive image for the town, and it is hoped that more will come forward.
A facebook page, Irvine International, receives a lot of interest from overseas, and with the Scottish Open golf coming to Irvine next year there will be a big push to promote Irvine to an international as well as home audience. The talk was well received, and after questions and discussion, particularly from ‘old Irvinites’, a Vote of Thanks was proposed by Sandy Niven.
