Monday evening saw the Seagate Rotary annual golf competition. Some mismatched teams, comprising non golfers and alleged golfers, played over the nine holes of the Hallmark Hotel course. Scoring was not good, and much time was spent looking for balls in the long grass, but eventually the winners were declared to be the President’s team of John Brown, Donald Menzies and Alex McConnell.
There was suspicion of favouritism, but the result was deemed appropriate as it was the President’s birthday and everyone got a piece of cake.
The meeting proper started with the presentation of a cheque to Irvine Folk Club. Seagate Rotary are sponsoring the Senior Citizens’ concert on the Thursday, and the folk sessions at Red Cross House, Abbeyfield and Buckreddan on the Friday.
In other business, it was noted that the main speakers at the club’s Sportsmen’s Dinner in February will be former referee Brian McGinley and ex player Willie Henderson, a good double act.
