A team of four from Seagate Rotary took part in the West of Scotland Rotary golf challenge at Largs last week. Suffice it to say that they were more successful in the charity raffle than the golf. The real winners on the day were the midges which kept the competitors moving briskly and not wasting time over delicate shots.
Seagate ran the bottle stall at the SANDS gala day in Eglinton Park on Sunday, and despite the weather this proved to be a good money generator for the charity.
On Monday Seagate had a two hour instruction and demonstration by Alex and George from Ayrshire Heartstart, the instructional wing of the British Heart Foundation. Members were shown the ways of dealing with heart attacks, choking and serious bleeding, and were able to practice resuscitation techniques on dummies. They were also instructed in the use of a defibrillator. This was a very practical and useful exercise for all concerned. Heartstart Ayrshire run free two hour public classes at the Ayrshire Central Hospital in Irvine, and can be contacted on 01294 373478.
