Presidents Night at the Lion in Leintwardine
Wed, Oct 19th 2016 at 7:15 pm - 8:30 pm
Tonight we celebrated 40 years of Rotary in Knighton with good food, good company and home spun entertainment....
We had a good turn out to help President Patrick celebrate his special night and that of the club. The meal and the service was excellent and we were well taken care of. Definitely a venue for future events. We were pleased to have Martin join us for the evening after his time away sorting out affairs in Bavaria and it was good to have Janet, Joan and Sandie sharing the evening with us. We were also happy to welcome Tony and Jane Arnsby, friends of Ivan and Cathy, to the slightly anarchic event that was our President's night. We were entertained by President Patrick, Paul, Howard, Cathy, Ivan, Kim, Norman, Bruce and Dorothy with readings, shaggy dog stories, poems and jokes which certainly kept us chuckling. The Richard Morgan trophy was won ( for the second year in a row) by Dorothy...thanks to guests Jane and Tony for deciding who to award this to, as the competition was fierce. There was also a fierce battle during the auction for the open top BMW weekend ( kindly donated by Howard ) which went to Sheila for just over £100 - all proceeds to our charitable efforts. Many thanks Sheila! Also auctioned was a large teddy bear called Barnaby donated by Ivan which went to Nick for £50 - many thanks for your generosity Nick! But the highlight of the evening, however, was the presentation of a Paul Harris Award to Norman Thorp. This was very much deserved as Norman is always there to lend a hand, organise and support the club whenever it is needed and indeed contributing " above and beyond".....Congratulations Norman and thanks to everyone for a very enjoyable evening.....
