Soham Carnival 2016

The Club took place in the Carnival procession by presenting a Rotary float with the theme " Rotary and Peace the world over"

Soham Rotary Club joined the Soham Carnival Parade with their float themed "Rotary and Peace the world over"

Along with the other floats mainly from the local schools and playgroups, the Rotary float was escorted through the town before making it's way into the showground. Despite a rather grey day, the streets were lined with many spectators waving and cheering as the floats passed by - it's traditional to "throw" pennies/coins to those on the floats and all takings are pooled for the Carnival's charity fund.

In addition to the floats were the Carnival princesses, Majorette troup and Soham cadet brass band.

A huge thanks goes to ASDA for providing the vehicle and their driver Steve who did an excellent job assisting with the set up and steering the float around the course.

Many thanks also to Rotarian Lynne for pulling together the float design and everyone who helped set up the float and also participated  in the parade.

Overall, it was excellent to see the Rotary Club very much engaged in this community event.

The actual day of the Soham Carnival had started very early with the traditional heavy horse show and the judging. The recreational park had a great range of stalls for everyones entertainment and it was good to see our friends, Blueshed Studies, with their stage set-up and broad range of music being provided.

A real community event and congratulations to the Carnival organising team.
