Soham Staploe Rotary Club celebrated it's 41st birthday Charter at The Brook on Wednesday night ( 3rd May).
President Bruce was joined on the top table by his wife Cat, DG Dorothy Pulford Harris and her husband PDG Peter Harris, PDG John King, President Bram Holland of Littleport Club, President John Dennick of Ely Rotary Club.
One key person missing from the top table was that of the speaker to be, Sue Marchant from the BBC, but due to sudden illness, was unable to attend. All wished her a speedy recovery. Fortunately, PDG Peter had a story or two up his sleeve and recited several pems reflecting the many facets of both Norfolk and Suffolk accents.
There were visitors also from neighbouring Rotary Clubs namely Newmarket, Ely, Littleport and District 1080 e-club, their partners and many "Friends" of the club who make the effort to support the event every year of which the Club is most grateful.
This year's chosen Presidents charity was Rotaries own RYLA schene supporting 18-26 year olds in their personal development - Soham Club will be helping to sponsor two candidates this year.
The raffle which traditionally has whisky as the prize proved as popular as ever and a few fine malt whisky's were then auctioned off by Hon Rotarian and ex Soham member, David Palmer - the raffle raised over £600 on the night.
Final mention goes to the Brook and their supporting staff for the set up and catering and also to this year's organiset, SVP Stuart Cavanagh and his team - well done to them.
The order of service was as below - see you all again next year hopefully
