Irvine Seagate Rotary were promised entertainment on Monday evening by member Hugh Hutchison with his holiday photos. This turned out to be a considerable understatement.
For many years Hugh has been an enthusiastic diver, with a particular interest in underwater photography. He described how equipment has changed over the years, to the extent that he can get better results now, with miniature underwater cameras costing less than £50, than was possible just a few years ago with bulky gear worth many thousands.
His preference now is for video, and he showed spectacular close up film of sharks, turtles, manta rays and other and other colourful and peculiar marine life in areas from the Indian Ocean to the Pacific. Hugh also does a lot of diving in the Clyde and on the West Coast, but his audience were more attracted to the exotic warm water locations, albeit even then in only an armchair fashion. After questions, a Vote of Thanks was proposed by Andy Slater.
