Cafe Academy

Paul and John attending support meeting of Cafe Academy

The Café Academy Team recently attended an Education Conference at Easterbrook Hall in Dumfries.  They made a presentation about their pop-up café enterprise to over 100 delegates as well as working alongside the Head Chef to prepare and serve lunch.

Café Academy is designed to give pupils a real business context in which to develop the enterprise and citizenship skills set out by the Scottish Qualifications Authority.  Pupils are involved in setting up and running a pop-up long with additional entrepreneurial activities such as the sourcing and sale of second-hand books, jewellery and  vintage  treasures.  During the preparation and delivery of the project, pupils have the opportunity to evaluate themselves and their peers as they explore a range of skills.  The pupils work as a team and support each other as well as having specific roles and responsibilities.  The Team comprises:

  • Kali Cairnie: Publicity and Assistant Project Manager

  • Katie Wright:  Catering and Administration Manager

  • Ross Clark:  Quality Assurance and Assistant Sales Manager

  • Fraser Kemp:  Assistant Catering and Development Manager.

  • Sam Middleton:  Sales and Diversification Manager
