Seagate Rotary’s speaker on Monday was Yvonne Gribben, head teacher at the Haysholm School in Bank Street, Irvine. Haysholm provides education for children and young people, aged 5 to 18, who have severe and complex additional support needs.
Yvonne talked about recent developments in teaching and communication, and outlined how modern technology can be a big aid in helping some of the pupils to learn and communicate.
To further this, the school is raising funds for an £8,000 ‘Magic Carpet’ cutting edge vertical projection system that will provide visual and sensory stimulation and facilitate social interaction. There were questions on the issues raised in the talk, and a Vote of Thanks was proposed by Dan Moriarty.
At the conclusion, Seagate Rotary President Adam Moonie presented Yvonne with a cheque to the school to help with their fundraising. The money was raised by Seagate at their recent bag packing and can collection at Tesco.
