Caroline is currently in Goa and has taken part in a Rotary Immunisation Day so we shall look forward to hearing all aboutit when she returns in mid February.
This year will be to develop a cohesive and sustainable plan to carry our projects consistent wth Rotary values and our club ethos and technology. Any thoughts for a project please post in the FB Clubhouse Group for discussion.
The Ouse Washes [Rotary Ride 2016] event is progressing with Mike and Gary beavering away at getting support. Our Club Council has discussed being the lead club and it seems to be OK. Gay has visited Soham Staploe club and has gained their support all being well. The plans are well on the way to being finalised with us looking at a marketing and social media campaign to raise awaeness and support from other clubs.
Gary and Mike currently are members of Ely Hereward [who were the lead club for the past two years] and Gary is transferring to Soham Staploe and Mike has indictaed he wishes to join us as he ives broad for part of the year. He will be around until the Washes event is organised.
As mentioned our intrepid adventurers James, Caroline an Becky are risking life and limb to raise money and represent our club in the Rotary Day Millenium O2 Dome Walk on Februray 23rd. We have a couple of pending members:
Peter Romain who lives in Spain and Colchester and has recently left his Spanish club and approached us. He is a keen supporter of Foundation with a PHF+7 and has been involved in Rotary for a number of years.
Anna - who has been visitiing us regularly now on a Wednesday and shares her time between Norwich and her homeland of Greece where she supportsher family business through managing their internet presence. Anna is new to Rotary but has family and friends back in Greece who recommended her to join Rotary.
Emma Hamilton has been discussing possibly joining us as she hasa job that takes her regularly to Dubai and therefore cannot maintain membership in a land based club [sheused to belong to a traditional club previously]
As said previously Mike Anthony is also going to transfer from Ely Hereward to our club shortly.
If you feel you know smeone who would be interested in joining Rotary and our club then feel free to introduce them to me, Jacqueline or David M.
John Gordon-Saker CEO of Norwich OPEN [a youth charity] shared with us the story of how the original Barclays building in Norwich has been transformed by the Lind Trust to be a stunning venue for activities to support youth in the community. It is a music venue, a conference facility, a hub for events and a youth activities and support meeting place .... a compelling story.
Time is rapidly moving on if we are going to make a weekend in Bournemouth for the Rotary GB&I national conference with the opportunity for our club to organise a Charter event with a difference and get together.
If there is an appetite to do this then we can see what we can do. I know that Ivan and Barbara are going and we need to establish who else is up for it. .
Each year the District Governor Elect attends a "training" conference where they hear about how to provide the best Rotary experience in their role in their District and meet their opposite numbers from around the world sharing a multi cultural perspective. This year one of the speakers was Mitty Chang from the eClub of Silicon Valley who visited our club on the 16th December. Here is his talk to the Assembly [also availble on the FB Clubhouse Group ....
