Weekly Press Report
On Saturday Seagate Rotary distributed 100 Christmas hampers to pensioners in and around Irvine. The hampers were provided and filled by Rotary members, and delivered by members of the First and Seventh Irvine Boys Brigade Companies.
Monday’s meeting was a business night, and it was noted that in the past year Seagate raised over £7,000 in charitable funds, and made contributions to 22 local, national and international charities and other organisations. The main office bearers for 2016/17 were elected - John Brown (President), Dan Moriarty (President Elect), Dan Morriarty (Preesident Nominee), Billy Dickson (Treasurer) and Andy Slater (Secretary).
Events, charitable and social, already organised for early next year include a Burns Night, the annual Sportsmen’s Dinner on 26 February, a Race Night and a visit to the twin club in Orleans. It was reported that in the past year there have been only 66 cases of wild Polio in 2 countries, down from 324 in 9 countries last year. Despite this it is important that the Rotary sponsored immunisation campaign has to continue to ensure that any future outbreaks do not spread in an unprotected population. Finally in the last charity draw of the year a bottle of champagne went to Dan Moriarty who will no doubt ensure that it is put to a good cause.
