Last week President Adam Moonie made a donation on behalf of Seagate Rotary to Haysholm School. The head teacher will be speaking to the club later in the season on the work of the school.
It has been confirmed that the main speaker at the club’s Sportsmen’s Dinner on 26 February will be Jim Leishman.
Seagate’s speaker on Monday was former Detective Superintendent David Swindle, who now carries out independent reviews and analyses of the evidence in unsolved murder cases, introducing modern scientific techniques alongside a new look at old case notes and any new evidence.
As well as UK cases he is heavily involved in incidents that happened abroad, where his forensic experience allied to his team’s linguistic abilities enable him to liaise closely with European forces. He sees this area as particularly important and helpful for relatives who have difficulty finding out what happened under a foreign jurisdiction. Much of his talk was on the methodology used to profile suspects in serial cases, and the increasing use of social media to spread information and seek new evidence. This was an interesting talk that generated many questions. A Vote of Thanks was proposed by John Brown.
