Alzheimer Scotland - 05/10/15

Weekly Press Report

Irvine Seagate Rotary’s subject on Monday evening was Alzheimers and dementia.  Donna Paterson, Dementia Advisor with Alzheimer Scotland in North Ayrshire, explained how dementia can take many different forms and degrees of severity, all due to different levels of deterioration of brain function.  Many people can continue to live full and active lives for a long time, particularly if they have adequate support, and Alzheimer Scotland is committed to providing personalised support services and community support.

One part of their campaign is to encourage people to become Dementia Friends.  This just involves a one hour free training session which explains how to recognise symptoms, such as confusion, and how to help.  It is particularly useful for people dealing with the public, such as in retail, and many supermarkets already train their staff.  For advice or information on all aspects of dementia, contact Donna on 01294 608219.  Alzheimer Scotland is determined to make sure that nobody, sufferer or carer, should face dementia alone.  After questions, a Vote of Thanks was proposed by Robert McMillan.

Before the meeting, President Adam Moonie presented the prize to the Marymass Balloon Race winner - Madison Attridge
