Welcome Margaret Fowler - our first appointed Associate Member following the resolution agreed within the Club two months ago.
Margaret is Cleric in Charge at Christ Church in Perry Street and was recently ordained
into the priesthood. She gave the New Year message to the Club in January, has been a frequent Monday
lunch guest.
We welcome her, not only as a minister of the cloth but as a good friend and an active supporter of Rotary. Gentlemen - great to have a lady on board again after Sue Hammond, retired as Head Teacher of the Billericay School in June this year, and moved permanently to Kent. Thanks go to Malcolm Acors for bringing Margaret to us.
In today’s world, people are increasingly busy and find it difficult to spare the time to make the full commitment to attend weekly Rotary meetings. Associate Membership is a new class of Rotary membership designed to allow those people who want to serve their community but who have less time available. It allows them still to join Rotary and profit from membership, and be able to serve their community.
It requires a minimum Rotary Commitment of attendance at, or support given to, twelve Club meetings OR Club events in any one Rotary year, and has much reduced joining and membership fees. All Associate Members are encouraged to attend Club Councils, Club Service Committees, and District Council meetings, and to become officers of the club, but are NOT allowed to vote. They are also encouraged to support Club functions, e.g. Charter Lunches, Partners’ lunches, President’s Day, and Club Visits and outings, and play an active part in all discussions.
Our Associate members will generally join for up to two years.
back The Rotary Club of Billericay is part of the international Rotary movement of 1.2 million members and welcomes new members. It is a thriving club with an enjoyable social dimension.
