There was a full house at Irvine Seagate Rotary on Monday, including five members of the District management team on a visit. Assistant Governor Iain Christie updated the club on the progress of the Rotary promoted End Polio campaign. There have been just 26 confirmed cases worldwide so far this year, all in Pakistan and Afghanistan, and Africa has been polio free since last July. This is amazing progress since 1985 when the Rotary campaign started and there were 350,000 cases a year spread over 125 countries.
A number of Seagate members spent Sunday running a bottle stall for the Irvine SANDS support group at their duck race gala in Eglinton Park. The event was a big success, and SANDS are to be congratulated on selling tickets for 1600 ducks for the race and organising a good day out for the public.
To round off the evening, Dan Moriarty reported on his recent trip to America where he visited three Rotary clubs. Two were in Arizona and Virginia, but the last was on the Route 66, in New Mexico, where he was made Guest of Honor when he made an unannounced appearance at the Rotary Club of Moriarty.
