The 26th Bus Am Golf Tournament

Rotary golf day raises £5,000 for the Alder Hey Children’s Charity

Now in its 26th year, the Rotary Club of Southport Link’s annual Bus-Am golf day was held recently at The Hesketh golf club.  The chosen charity for this year was the Alder Hey Children’s charity and an impressive £5,000 was raised.

Despite the inclement weather of late the golfers managed to have a sunny and warm day.  A total of 17 teams took part and the winning team was from Sergent Associates with with a score of 91 points, closely followed by the team from H B Villages with 89 points and in third place was the team from Southport Insurance Brokers with 88 points.  ‘Nearest to the pin’ was won by C Johnson a guest of the Firwood Timber team; and the ‘longest drive’ was won by Jonny Wrigley from the H B Villages team. Howard Graham also from the H B Village team also won the putting competition. The day was sponsored by Premier Wealth Management and was celebrated with a dinner in the newly refurbished club house dining room at which the Captain of the club, Stephen Jones, took part.

A cheque for £5,000 was presented to Cath Harding by John Bambery, Tournament organiser and Jeff MacCalman, President of the Rotary Club of Southport Links.

The money raised by Southport Links Rotary for Alder Hey Children’s Charity will help to make Alder Hey in the Park a truly world-class, patient-friendly hospital – making a crucial difference to the 275,000 patients and families who we care for at Alder Hey every year.

More specifically it will help to provide on-site  pioneering medical research and innovation into the development of safer and more effective medicines for children and young people and fund cutting edge research and help to develop new and more effective treatments for children suffering from cancer, acute infections and inflammatory conditions.

Cath Harding from Alder Hey Children’s Charity said,We are incredibly grateful for the support of Southport Links Rotary Club and to all of the teams who took part in their very successful golf day. The money raised on the day will make a real difference to the 275,000 children treated at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital every year.”

Arrangements are now being made for next year’s event. For details, please contact John Bambery email:  busam@rcsl.org.uk

Fund Raising

back Our Fund Raising committee is probably the most important committee in the club - if we don't raise the money we can't help any good causes out when they need it.
