Jun 2015 - Visit + Partners & Guests - Tour & NEW Visitors Centre

Mon, Jun 29th 2015 at 6:00 pm - 10:00 pm

A meal and visit evening for Partners and Guests.

Today we had the opportunity to have a tour of the new Visitors Centre at the American Cemetery, Madingleyy Road, Coton. It is the only WW2 cemetery in Britain. Built on land originally donated by the University. The site is beautifully situated on a hill, with panoramic views, and the immaculate grounds include mature trees and handsome buildings.  The new Visitors Centre houses a unique memorial to the US soldiers who died while serving from the UK.  The videos, photos and words displayed have been carefully chosen and are very evocative.

The evening was warm and sunny and made the view even more special that usual.  Our guide for the evening was very knowledgeable and keen to bring the subject to life.  We were introduced to 2 of the involving personal stories behind the marble crosses.

We gathered for a meal afterwards in a local pub - The White Horse, Oakington - £12 (cash preferred).

Meet at 6pm AT THE FLAGPOLE for a tour - about 1.5 hours. CB23 7PH

Parking - NOT THE MAIN CARPARK.

             - use the Coach Park OR the public carpark at the back of the site.
