Rotary Young Musician

An annual national competition for students aged 17 and under.

The competition comprises three qualifying stages: local, District and Regional.  Competitors are sponsored by individual Rotary clubs and must be amateurs. They may come from schools, colleges or other community organisations.

Four years ago we co-sponsored Polly Bartlett, at that time a sixth former at Bournemouth School, who won the Wessex Regional final as a solo instrumentalist and then went on to be runner-up in the National final.  She enjoyed further success by becoming a BBC Young Musician finalist.

Our photo shows Polly receiving the Wessex Rotary Cup on the steps of Bournemouth School from Jack Maguire, chief Adjudicator of the Regional Final and former co-leader of the B.S.O.
