The championships attracted more than 1200 athletes from 200 schools throughout Scotland from the Orkney Isles to the Scottish Borders and all parts in between.
Apart from the financial support.the largest ever to a single sports event by D1230the branding of Rotary was commended by the event organisers and Rotarians who attended the championships.
More than 40 clubs supported the branding with trackside banners and a “Rotary Avenue” of pop-up banners through which athletes and spectators walked inside the Arena.
Rotary’s logo was put up on the electronic scoreboard throughout the two day event and was augmented by four fifteen second announcements about what Rotary is and what it does.
More than 120 schools asked for and were given special Rotary packs.
Janice Hendrie, President of the Scottish Schools Athletic Association, said “ We were delighted that Rotary, renowned for its support for community and youth activities, sponsored the championships.”
For the record, more than 25 records were broken at this year’s championships!
District Governor John Waddell said “ It was a most positive experience for the athletes, for the schools and for Rotary. We look forward to continuing to support our schools.”
Past District Governor Richard Lees who proposed the sponsorship said, “ It was a first class event which was excellent for the athletes and their schools and for Rotary. We certainly enhanced Rotary’s image.”
Rotary’s sponsorship was covered by three of Scotland’s leading newspapers.
