Northampton's Rotary Swimarathon

The annual event organised, jointly, by the four Northampton Rotary Cubs. This year at the Chris Moody Centre, Moulton College

SWIMARATHON GRANT AWARDS DISTRIBUTED

The money raised at this year's Swimarathon is being presented to local charities, and the first of a number of presentations has now been made.

This was a cheque for £280.00 given to the 1st Brafield Brownies, at their weekly meeting in Denton Primary School. Rtn Paul Simpson (Hon Sec to Swimarathon Committee) is shown presenting the cheque to Sarah Stevens their Pack Leader (see right). 1st Brafield Brownies entered two teams in this years Swimarathon, They completed 69 & 72 lengths.

A cheque for £330 was presented by Rtn Stan Evans to Maeve Wilkes (Deputy Head Teacher) of Green Oaks Primary Academy (see left). They entered one team in Swimarathon, which completed 45 lengths. The school is purchasing outdoor seating and bean bags, so the children can continue their reading learning in the open air.

The team from the 31st Northampton Boys' Brigade completed a total of 113 lengths, which is just under 2 miles during their swim. The pictures (right & below) were taken at a recent meeting of the Brigade in the Queensgrove Methodist Church where Martin Law receive a cheque for £150 to go toward the purchase of much needed equiptment. Rotarians John Roy and Stan Evans made the presentation.

Awards are made to local charities that have made applications for small grants which are judged and awards will be made during 2014. Some money will be retained by the four Rotary Clubs of Northampton Charitable Trusts to help fund projects in the local community. This means all monies raised will be invested back into our local community. Organisations are encouraged to take part and apply for a grant for next year's event.

FURTHER SWIMARATHON PRESENTATIONS

The 2015 Swimarathon took place in March, organized by the four Rotary Clubs in Northampton. The event was held at the Chris Moody Sports Centre at Moulton College, and consisted of teams of up to 6 swimmers, swimming in relay format for an hour. It was not a race or a competition, but was a fun event and thoroughly enjoyed by all those who participated. 11 teams took part and btewen them completed a total of 955 lengths. On the day a total in of nearly £4,000 was raised through sponsorship. After the event each team was allowed to donate 50% of the money they raised in sponsorship, to a worthy cause or charity.

Ist Scaldwell Guides had a team of 3 swimmers and completed a total of 68 lengths, raising £216.50 in sponsorship. Pictured (left) are Bethany and Anna presenting a cheque to Jill Gunnett (Guide Leader) and Victoria Howlett. Their other swimmer, Jessica, was not available at the time the pictures were taken.

43rd Northampton Guides had a team of 6 swimmers and completed a total of 107 lengths, raising £442.50 in sponsorship. Pictured (right) are Trinnie, Caitlin & Elenor. Presenting a cheque to Margaret Thomas (Assistant Guide Leader). The tops worn in the picture were the sweatshirts with hoods, they purchased with their sponsorship money.

"Winking Prawns" was a team of 6 swimmers from Little Houghton Primary School which completed a total of 104 lengths, raising £210.00 in sponsorship. Pictured (left) are Carolyn Fairbrother (Headteacher), Grayce Harding and Kitty Knowles
