YOUNG ACHIEVER AWARD
Eleven years old Jade McTaggert, a P7 student at Kirkcudbright Primary School, received an early Christmas present when Paul Tebay, Youth Service Convenor for the Rotary Club of Kirkcudbright, attended the school's end of term Assembly last Friday. Jade was presented with a special copy of an Usborne 'Dictionary 4 Life'. These prize dictionaries have a Rotary book plate with the student's name fixed on the first page. This was the very first such award made to a nominated student by Kirkcudbright Rotary Club as part of their recently launched 'Young Achiever' project. This project, which is open to Auchencairn, Borgue, Gatehouse, Kirkcudbright and Twynholm Primary Schools, is designed to help the primary school teachers reward individual students for ''really trying hard and doing your very best'' in school. It is the hope of the Rotary Club that this project will not only reward those students that receive the prize dictionaries but also, by a Rotarian awarding the prize in a school assembly, it will also help other students to try that little bit harder in school so that they might be nominated for an award.
