NOONKODIN SECONDARY SCHOOL Tanzania

The Rotary Club of Eyemouth have been helping to facilitate the provision of 10 laptops to the Noonkodin school in Moncluli, Tanzania. Noonkodin was the school the rotary clubs of Eyemouth & District and Dunbar helped to raise funds for the provision a class room and the fixtures and fittings in 2010. Early in June 2013 a group of students from Ellesmere Port Catholic High School were visiting the school and kindly acted as tutors for the laptops during the visit.We will receive feedback from the Ellesmereport students once they are back in school in the autumn and even the possibility of a visit from some Massai tribesman later in the year. The provision of the laptops could only be made possible through some very kind local benefactors, Rotarian David McClymont and an international IT recycling company's staff who refurbished the machines.

Noonkodin Secondary School in the Maasai Village of Eluwai, Tanzania is a co-educational school being built and run by an organisation known as Aang Serian.

It is pioneering a new approach to education: not training youth for desk jobs in town, but helping them find new ways to make village life more sustainable and fulfilling.

The School is now well established and our project is to furnish and equip the Science Laboratory. Furnishing and equipping in Tanzania means a little more than in Eyemouth since in addition to desks, chairs and lab benches it includes glass in the windows.

The Rotary Club of Eyemouth and District have direct contact with the school through Gemma Enolengila who is married to a Massai tribesman from that village and have built up an excellent relationship with her over the last few years.

Our mother club, The Rotary Club of Dunbar have supported our project and have contributed £2,500 to our total to date of £5,275. This District Foundation Grant of 2,000 dollars (£1,300) will make a tremendous difference to the school and is very much appreciated by all involved in the project. This will mean a total investment in Tanzania of just over 15,000,000 Tanzanian Shillings.
