On Friday 18th July Margaret, Laurence and I supported the Rotary Club of Basildon’s Fundraising Night at Langdon Hills Golf & Country Club.
The flyer for this event said “7 GREAT MUSICIANS AND SINGERS JOIN FORCES TO RECREATE THE TIMELESS MUSIC OF THE LATE GREAT BOB MARLEY”.
So often, the marketing hype flatters to deceive, but ...... this was a terrific concert and a fitting tribute to the King of Reggae, who died of cancer in 1981. Amongst the classics performed in front of a very enthusiastic audience were “No Woman, No Cry”, “I Shot the Sheriff” and “Buffalo Soldier”.
Margaret won first prize in the raffle and chose a small food hamper. During the interval we went outside to watch lightning in the Tilbury area, and the second half of the performance was electrifying.
I felt quite sorry for the band. It was not a good night to be on the roads and after packing their gear, they were driving back to Birmingham that evening.
