A very enjoyable morning was spent at the West Midland Shooting Ground recently when a party of Oswestry Club marksmen demonstrated their prowess. Hon Sec Ian found that most of the party made themselves scarce after his announcement that he'd never fired a shotgun before, but they gathered a little closer after he downed 6 out of 8 clays at the first stand! He afterwards added that he had only used rifles and bren guns previously.
IPP Stuart, returning from his very happy nuptials near the Ukraine, showed why the rebels weren't keen to tangle with him, as he blasted 26 out of his 40 targets, whereas John Davies's efforts showed why he is still a deserved member of the Clay Preservation Society.
Our excellent instructor, ex world champion Dave, gave us a fascinating insight into shooting, when he worked in Texas, where perhaps unsurprisingly, live but timid target pigeons were "encouraged" to fly out of their traps by the judicious use of electrified perches! Our Club Protection officer Graham, might be a little concerned if we suggested incorporating this activity into our next event.
Good fellowship and fun was had as usual at this Club "Rotaventure" event. Rotaventure is an Oswestry Club initiative to include some rather unconventional activities. Zip Wire in Snowdonia next!
