Youth Speaks Competition at
The Rotary Club of Abergavenny recently held its annual public speaking competition for students of King Henry VIII Comprehensive.
Four teams from the lower school and six teams from the upper school competed as two separate groups. Each team had a chair person, a speaker and a proposer of the vote of thanks. They choose their own topic and performed timed talks in front of an audience of fellow pupils, parents and Rotarians. Each speaker also had to answer a question from the audience.
The standard of speaking in both content and presentation was extremely high for both groups and gave the judges a very difficult task in selecting winners and who commended them for their high achievement. This was no easy task considering some of them had not spoken in public before.
The junior teams were:
Joe Beckingsale, Adam Hill and Elliot Webb; Marcus Berzolla, George Vines and Jules Young; Katie Davies, Genevieve Tyler-Batt and Megan James; Cara Newsam, Emily James and Sumayah Jilani.
The senior teams were:
Rolla Ramsdan, Will Barnes and Arianwen Fields; Megan Nicholls, Oliver Eddolls and Charlie Smith; Max Wright, Seth Mortenson and Ritchie Grainger; Angharad Clarke, Bethan Gilson and Kate Baldock; Laura Yates, Robert King and Emily Brown; Umaamah jilani, Isobel Parry- Jones and Molly Bradley
The winners of this club round were junior team: Cara Newsam, Emily James, Sumayah Jilani and senior team: Umaamah jilani, Isobel Parry- Jones, Molly Bradley, who then went on to compete in the Area Event at St. Michael
